On 2015-07-01, we received an emergency call. Giulia is stuck! Giulia is stuck? No, not Romeo’s lover but the tunnel drill so named which is currently responsible for a new tram and traffic network in Karlsruhe. Aim of this so-called “combo solution” is to calm the traffic in the inner city area and to relieve the highly-frequented commuter routes close to the inner city. To make travel on the routes into and out of town free from stress and delay for all traffic partners, and to make the inner city more attractive by offering traffic-free strolling and sightseeing.<\/p>\n\n
A great idea as such, and Giulia did “her” work very well, but sometimes even the strongest ladies reach their limits. She kept drilling happily until a concrete buttress put an end to the advance. There was no way forwards or back. What now?<\/p>\n\n
Here ANT entered the pitch. Our mission: Can our technique cut Giulia free! Within one day we sent the required equipment including all accessories and spare parts together with our cutting sand to Karlsruhe. Three of our engineers and technicians followed in the wake, and already the next day we could take the first steps for the demonstration of our technique. Despite some construction site-related teething problems, we started cutting in the night. After we sliced a sufficiently large groove around the cutting shield and made a holder for the cutting nozzle at the cutting wheel of the tunnel drill, our cutting system was able to start working at 2,300 bar. Few time later we could announce the good news: cutting works!<\/p>\n\n
Once again the water abrasive suspension cutting procedure could prove its versatility.
