Different threats require different Render Safe Procedures
There is no single response for every explosive threat.
Depending on the object, its condition, its location and the operational objective, EOD teams select from different Render Safe Procedures and technical capabilities.
Manual intervention may be appropriate in one scenario. Controlled detonation may be the right choice in another. Remote manipulation or disruption may provide the required solution elsewhere.
But what happens when manual fuse removal is not preferred — and detonation is not the preferred next step either?
This is where remote cold cutting can add another technical option.
ANT’s Mobile Abrasive Cutting Equipment is based on Water Abrasive Suspension (WAS) cutting, a process developed for controlled cutting in demanding environments. ANT already applies the technology in EOD and IEDD scenarios where remote operation, controlled cutting and distance from the object are important.
The webinar is therefore not about replacing established EOD methods.
It is about understanding when another capability may be useful.
Water Abrasive Suspension cutting combines water, pressure and abrasive material to create a powerful cutting jet.
Unlike conventional thermal cutting methods, WAS is a cold-cutting process. ANT’s EOD systems use remotely controlled cutting devices and can also be applied in underwater environments.
For EOD teams, the technology creates an interesting operational combination:
Remote operation. Controlled cutting. Flexible cutting geometries.
Different manipulators and cutting guidance systems can be selected according to the required task rather than forcing every EOD scenario into one fixed cutting geometry.
Underwater explosive ordnance creates another set of challenges.
Access can be difficult. Visibility may be limited. Personnel exposure and the effects of an underwater detonation can become important considerations when selecting an appropriate response.
ANT’s EOD technology is designed to support cold cutting underwater, extending remote cutting capabilities below the surface.
During the webinar, participants will get an introduction to how the same Water Abrasive Suspension cutting principle can support different operational environments.
Robotic systems are already an important element of modern EOD and IEDD operations.
They enable operators to inspect, approach, grip and manipulate suspicious objects while remaining at a greater distance.
But inspection is only part of the mission.
What happens when the robot reaches a structure, vehicle or object that requires controlled access or cutting?
This is another application area for remote WAS cutting.
ANT has already presented combinations of its cutting technology with EOD robotic platforms, extending the concept from remote inspection to remote intervention.
The webinar will therefore also look at ROV and EOD robot integration and the role remote cutting can play within a wider robotic EOD capability.
