Ship Recycling and Green Steel Recovery
Environment-friendly recycling of ships using water jet cutting technology
As part of the increasing tendency towards emission-free shipping traffic, we expect more activity in the field of ship scrapping in the upcoming 10 years. It is particularly noteworthy that the amount of ship recycling is expected to double. About 15,000 ships with a total transport capacity of 600 million tons (compared to 7,780 ships with 285 tons in the last decade) are intended to be scrapped. New regulations define clear standards for environment-friendly and safe ship recycling. At the same time, steel industry, one of the major CO2 emission sources, is facing the challenge to reduce their emissions by about 30 percent until 2030 as agreed in the Paris Climate Treaty of 2015. About 85 percent of the CO2 emissions in steel production are a result of the blast furnace process.

Resource-saving ship disassembly with water jet cutting technology: flexible, safe and efficient
Our advanced water jet cutting technology offers many advantages for sustainable scrapping of ships. We at ANT Applied New Technologies AG focus on environment-friendly methods to shape the future of ship recycling in a better way. These are some of the outstanding advantages offered by our technology:
- Flexible application options: Our water jet cutting system enables versatile use from the outside to the inside and vice versa. This versatility enables precise and efficient disassembly of most different ship structures, be they primary, secondary or tertiary.
- Adjustable WAS head: The flexible application options of our WAS head enable precise remote control and positioning of the water jet so that you can cut even the most demanding structures safely.
- No risk of fire or explosion: As opposed to conventional methods, water jet cutting does not cause any risk of fire or explosion. This significantly increases workplace safety and minimizes risks.
- Good for the environment: Our water jet cutting technology does not generate any gaseous or solid emissions such as slag which would pollute the environment.
- Versatility of materials: Steel, composite or material with large wall thickness – our technology can be flexibly used and yields excellent cut quality in every situation.
- Minimum deformation: In the cutting process there is hardly any deformation of the steel pieces. The material properties and quality remain largely the same, thus making recycling easier.
- Use in any weather: Our water jet cutting system can be used under any weather conditions. Rain or shine – our technology constantly delivers precise results.
