Bomb Disposal – Successful 6th WAS Training in Belgium: Valuable Insights and Hands-on Experience with MACE Equipment

Real-life deployment of the MACE system for the neutralization of unexploded ordnance

In early April 2025, the 6th WAS Training took place at Camp Elsenborn in Belgium – once again with the participation of international EOD teams and with the active support of ANT AG. As in previous years, the focus was on the practical application of Water Abrasive Suspension (WAS) cutting technology and the exchange of knowledge regarding the use of our MACE system in bomb disposal operations.

High-Level International EOD Collaboration

Specialist EOD teams from Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and the Netherlands participated in the training, working with various technical configurations of the MACE system under realistic field conditions. All activities were carried out under the strictest safety standards.
The practical exercises were complemented by intensive knowledge sharing between nations. Technical details, logistics, and tactical approaches were jointly analyzed and discussed — always with the goal of making future EOD operations even safer and more efficient.

International Observers & Growing Interest

In addition to the active teams, observers from other nations were invited to gain insight into the technologies, workflows, and organizational aspects of WAS-based cutting in the EOD field.
The high level of international interest shows:

Demand for practical waterjet-based solutions in ordnance disposal is growing rapidly.

MACE & EOD Trailer in Real-World Training Use

  • A broad range of MACE configurations was tested during the training – from modular stand-alone systems to fully equipped EOD Trailers, which are designed as mobile all-in-one solutions.
These trailers, optionally available for the MACE and MACE XL systems, offer significant time savings in EOD operations due to their ready-to-use setup. They feature:
    Immediate mobility & readiness
  • All MACE (XL) components, including guidance systems
  • Organized storage for abrasives, spare parts, safety gear, and more

Thanks to this mobile and compact solution, the teams were able to adapt quickly and efficiently to a wide range of training scenarios — a major advantage for real-world mission preparation.

Conclusion

The 6th WAS Training in Belgium ran smoothly and was marked by hands-on collaboration and shared learning experiences. The international exchange – both in the field and on a technical level – was considered extremely valuable by all participants. The team from the Belgian EOD Group has now established this training as a standout event that is unique in its form: well-organized, field-oriented, and highly regarded within the global EOD community.

We at ANT AG are grateful to have been part of this event again and would like to express our sincere thanks to the team from the Belgian EOD Group for the invitation and excellent cooperation. We’re already looking forward to the 7th WAS Training next year – and to continuing our exchange on waterjet-based bomb disposal technology.
